While Leonidas’ 300 could not stand forever against this invading force, love of country and a fervent desire to protect Sparta and its citizens from an enslaving tyrant gave the Spartan warriors the impetus they needed to fight to the death of every last man.

Throughout history we see example after example of people standing against tyrants. America is no exception. We fought the Revolutionary war to gain our freedom from a king who used the newfound wealth from the colonies to help fund his kingdom, all the while treating us like the redheaded step children. We threw off those shackles in defiance of tyranny. Thus began the great American Experiment. There was born the greatest nation in the world.

Our Founding Fathers were well acquainted with history and her ugly past. They crafted the Constitution and the Bill of Rights with that history, including their own recent emancipation, in mind. Understanding that men are born in liberty, endowed by their Creator, the Constitution was written to protect those God given rights. These venerated documents are timeless.

The second amendment is our greatest protection to help us guard against the infringement of the others. While progressives scream that we need fewer guns to be safe, nothing could be further from the truth. And once again, history bears us out. In every instance of tyrannical takeover, the first act of the invader has been to disarm its people. But you know that history. It has been spoken of innumerable times. We must admit that not every case of disarmament has been by a tyrant. There are also historic cases of nations taking guns from its citizens because they believed it would make them safer. And in every case, once again, they have been proven wrong.

In 1997 Australia instituted a national gun ban and citizens turned in more than 640,000 guns for destruction. What was the result? Accidental gun deaths are up 300% from the pre ban years, robbery and armed robbery have increased 20%, the assault rate has increased 200%, and homicides with firearms are up 171% in the state of Victoria alone. What does that tell you folks? That the criminals STILL have guns, that law abiding citizens are now unable to protect themselves on a level playing field, that the black market for illegal guns is thriving, and that gun bans only hurt a nations citizenry and help criminals.
U.S. Senator Ben Cardin, a Democrat from Maryland, recently added his support to President Obama’s call for gun control measures. Liberals across the nation have convinced their mindless sheeple that “assault weapons” need to be taken out of the hands of everyday Americans and that no one has need of a magazine that holds more than ten rounds.

Time and again I have asked the question, “what is an assault weapon?” and have been answered with dumbfounded silence. I own a Mossberg 500. It has a pistol grip and a chainsaw handle. I have opted to remove the chainsaw handle and add an Archangel tactical stock to it. When it is finished it will look pretty awesome. I like to accessorize my guns, much like I enjoy wearing earrings and having a wide selection of purses. It doesn’t change the nature of the gun. It is a semi automatic 12 gauge shotgun. That is all it will ever be. But it will look like what liberals think of as an assault weapon. And so they would ban it if we would let them. Sadly, we must fight the good fight largely because of their lack of education and willingness to understand. Like a child throwing a tantrum, they want it their way. What I wouldn’t give to have just one gun Nazi give a logical answer to my logical questions on the subject. Alas it is not to be. There are no logical answers. Plenty of anger and name calling, no answers. Guns are a tool and nothing more. Law abiding citizens don’t commit these atrocities. We need to be looking at the people, not the tools. We certainly do not need to leave citizens defenseless to face criminals and lunatics. This is the antithesis of logic.

Ultimately the right to bear arms is a safeguard against tyrants. But it also serves to enable citizens to participate every day in their own safety and well being. There are many good reasons to cling to our guns and not one good reason to give them up. Only a government with tyrannical motives would seek to disarm its people. We must scream our defiance in the face of the single greatest threat to our Republic. We must hold onto our guns and make it clear to the liberals that we will not let them go willingly, that a 21st century civil war will ensue upon any action taken by them to pry those guns from our hands.
We must shout from the rooftops, MOLON LABE! and we must mean it!

    Ms. Kress, this is a fantastic article. I couldn’t agree more. I don’t even own a gun at present, but would go to great lengths to protect our rights as a people from being trampled by a career politician dead set on passing legislation simply to further her parties political agenda. No logic in passing a new “assault weapons” ban when previous legislation of its kind did NOTHING to reduce violent crime or gun violence. If reducing gun violence and not an ideaological agenda is her motivator, why are you introducing legislation that didn’t work previously and hoping for a different result?! Insanity.

      Thank you Patriotfather. One thing that no one is really articulating is that the increase in violence is perpetrated by violent criminals and people with mental health issues. Taking away our gun rights will not change that. The black market for illegal gun sales will thrive and the people who shouldn’t have guns, and couldn’t get them legally even now, will still have access. Don’t blame the tool.

    It’s funny, when we took our CCW training, the instructor, a working LEO, told us to be sure to join the NRA – somehow I don’t think he and his peers would follow any orders to confiscate civilian weapons. The elites in D.C. have a big surprise coming if they try it.

      I have posted the following several times on different sites because I feel it is the most powerful argument that can be presented to our members of congress and other public officials at all levels. I have added one more paragraph to the emails or letters I send. Actually a letter sent by snail mail is more effective as many emails are just deleted by some staffer. Loads of envelopes piling up are hard to ignore. Feel free to cut and paste it into an email or preferably a snail mail letter. Send this to everyone you know and we CAN influence this debate.
      Sorry it is so long but I felt the meaning should be absolutely clear so that even Liberals could understand.

      Those who argue that the Second Amendment was written just for militias are completely blown out of the water by the following quote from Thomas Jefferson.
      “The strongest reason for “PEOPLE” (My emphasis) to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” – Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334 (C. J. Boyd, Ed., 1950)
      James Madison is credited with the writing of the “Bill of Rights” and was pretty clear about the meaning on the Second Amendment.
      “The Constitution preserves the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation where the governments are afraid to trust the “PEOPLE” (My emphasis) with arms.”
      Here are a few others who help define the true meaning of the Second Amendment. It becomes very clear upon the examination of the meanings attached to the Second Amendment by our Founding Fathers that the original intent of the Second Amendment is being attacked in order to eventually disarm the American people.
      ***”I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people, except for a few public officials.”
      George Mason, in Debates in Virginia Convention on Ratification of the Constitution, Elliot, Vol. 3, June 16, 1788

      –Tenche Coxe, an American political economist and a delegate for Pennsylvania to the Continental Congress, The Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788.
      Then there are politicians who insist in taking our Constitution out of context of time and original meaning. Once again, James Madison warned us against this.
      “Do not separate text from historical background. If you do, you will have perverted and subverted the Constitution, which can only end in a distorted, bastardized form of illegitimate government.”
      Second Amendment:
      “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to KEEP and BEAR arms, shall not be INFRINDGED.”
      Arms, in the context and time when our Constitution was written meant the usual arms carried by militia members, everyday citizens or light infantry in the Continental Army. Many of these arms were supplied by their owners for militia duty and were personal weapons initially used for hunting or home defense. They came in all types and calibers; from a 30 cal. squirrel rifle to a 75 cal. smooth bore musket, pistols and shotguns of all types, calibers and gauges. They also included a huge variety of other arms including: knives of every conceivable shape and size, bayonets and swords. Many early citizens also carried tomahawks.
      Attempts to control the type and or caliber of arms Americans’ can possess are absolutely against The Constitution and the Second Amendment as it was written and intended. By the supreme law of the land (The Constitution), an American citizen should be able to keep and bear any weapon now used individually by our light infantry soldiers.
      Larger weapons such as cannon and mortars that could not be carried by an individual soldier or required more than one person to operate were considered to be “ordinance” and were not defined as “arms”.
      Words have meanings! If those meanings are bastardized all becomes chaos.

      Definition of to KEEP: to hold or retain in one’s possession; hold as one’s own.
      Definition of to BEAR: to carry, transmit, transport, have a characteristic of and exhibit.
      Definition of INFRINGE: to “encroach” upon in a way that violates law or the rights of another.
      THIS IS THE WORD MOST FORGETEN……INFRINGE!!!!! Read the meaning!!!
      Definition of INFRINGE/ENCROACH…….. 1: to enter by “GRADUAL STEPS OR BY STEALTH” (MY BOLD) into the possessions or rights of another. 2: to advance beyond the usual or proper limits
      Why is this so hard to understand? The meanings of the words in the Second Amendment have not changed since the amendment was ratified.
      I am not aware of the Second Amendment being repealed or amended.
      In reference to arms control by the states; the Fourteenth Amendment Section .1. is crystal clear.
      Section. 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; (My emphasis) nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
      Many in politics from the legislative, administrative branches and or judges cite “precedent” as a justification for the violations of our rights as guaranteed in The Constitution of These United States of America. Precedent only describes what has been done and gotten away with, not if it was done in compliance with the supreme law of the land or in accordance with the oath of office to uphold The Constitution.

        My younger brother researched this some time ago and what he found was that the definition of “arms” in 1775 was, “any military style weapon that could be fielded by a crew of three men, or fewer” ….. “small arms” refers specifically to “personal” weapons to be fielded by a single person.

    If nothing else the Constitution was written to “Limit Government” protect the people,empower the people so the tyranny we fought and sometimes died to defeat could “never”happen here!

    We have the “Right to protect ourselves,our families,our property,our country with firearms if necessary! Defenseless,we are just the latest victims of tyranny who dug their own graves the buried in them!

      One of the biggest reasons is because we have continued to allow massive immigration. Why should we as a sovereign country allow anyone to become a citizen of this country? Let them come to visit or even to live, but by allowing every Tom, Dick, and Jane to become a citizen, these foreigners are entitled to vote without even knowing or understanding our Constitution (other than what they may memorize to pas a BS test). Instead, even with the economy in the toilet, we continue to allow legal as well as illegal immigration to further dilute our nation. This immigration is the main reason we have so many socialists, communists, and muslims in this country – none of which will vote with the Constitution in mind, but for what they think they deserve.

    Becky Kress, I love your thinking because you are correct in everything you have said, From what I have read on the Sen. Dianne Feinstein new bill, she wants to ban almost everything that shoots. Most of what she calls an assault weapon are done so only by what it looks like. She is mentally ill.

    When a person is pushed to the wall by the marxist you have two choices, give in and be a slave or fight and die for what God gave us and not the out of control government. I have lost family members who defended this cause and I served so all could be free but, if it means serving again, I’m ready.

    It could be said that the most “tyrannical” government in our nation’s history was the first one set up by the founding fathers. After all we had slavery, indentured servitude, indians were being forced off their lands, and women were not allowed to vote.

    Did everyone here see the video with scumbag Sharpton making clear that Americans can not have freedoms without government regulations. One of our biggest problems is some of these politicians have been there way tooooooooo long, one five year term for all branches of the government this way there is no campaigning on tax payer time. The longer a politician is in office the more he thinks he is god and we need to be like him.

    • Sharpton doesn’t hold an elected office. FYI the Constitution and the Bill of Rights were our first “government regulations” and they established our freedoms.

    Washington is the new Boomtown. Boomtowns throughout history have been because something was produced. Oil, gold, computer tech, etc. Washington produces nothing but debt and pays for it with your hard earned dollars.

    Nine of the richest counties in America are in and around Washington, D.C. 70,000 private jets, the highest consumption on rare wines, people paying cash for $325,000 cars and cash for homes. Corporations make 22,000% profit lobbying congress…

    They successfully shifted the blame on wall street and enlisted brain dead morons to protest on wall street to divert the attention away from the real crime in America while soaking the American tax payer out of 16 trillion dollars.

    They are held unaccountable for lying violating their oaths of office. They are unaccountable for crimes committed against the American people and the entire Congress is guilty of treason for their complicity in Obama’s crimes.

    They have sworn to protect the Constitution and from all enemies foreign and domestic and are defying that oath on a daily basis with no accountability.

    They are dividing a nation between rich and poor while they get richer and the poor poorer…

    They have stolen the press, the education and healthcare system, the banks, religious freedom, the auto industry and now they are coming for our guns so that we are left defenseless to their criminal activities. Only criminals and the government will have the guns and there is no difference between the two

    There is nothing more dangerous than an unaccountable government, not even armed citizens…

    We need to stop blaming either party separately and see it as a joint effort by both to undermine the constitution to assure a one world order… Agenda 21. WTFU America! It’s in your face and you still refuse to see. We are staring at absolute corruption in government that is bankrupting your children’s futures for generations.

    Mass murders could be just about brought to an end if the murderer was hung by the neck in front of the court house for about a week. That would take away some of the ‘fame and glory’ given to them by most of the lame stream media. Evil people who want to kill innocent unarmed victims would not be very anxious to be the next murderer hung out for all to see for about a week. That probably would bring an end to the corporate media’s evil agenda to disarm the innocent citizens of our country as well as an end to the ‘fame and glory’ given to the copy-cat murderers.
    Hang them for a long time so that murder won’t look very glorious to the next Adam Lanza.

    • Even if the commit suicide after the killing their body should still be hung up for a week. There is something weird about knowing you body is still hung out and displayed that is a deterrent to killing too.

  • The Second Amendment is like permission from an older sibling to do what is already authorized by one’s parent. It is meaningless, except for the purpose of usurping legitimate authority. My ancestors had the Biblical responsibility, according to Luke 22: 36, to bear arms long before “Big Brother” gave us the Second Amendment. If you are a Constitutionalist (or a prostitutionalist–whatever you want to call yourself for whoring after other gods), be ready to turn your guns in as soon as the Second Amendment slips away. As for me and my house, we’ll keep our fingers on the triggers.
