Corporate Sponsors Dumping Boy Scouts

On Thursday, Caterpillar announced it would pull support from the Boy Scouts thanks in part to the Scouts’ decision to allow openly homosexual scouts but not scoutmasters. Spokeswoman Rachel Potts said that the Caterpillar Foundation thinks that the policy is discriminatory, but refused to say that the policy was the whole reason for support being pulled.
The Obama administration used Caterpillar as a centerpiece of its push for the stimulus package in 2009; in February 2009, President Obama said that the company would begin rehiring employees if the stimulus passed. Instead, the company posted a massive quarterly net loss.
In May 2011, CFO Edward Rapp said that Caterpillar had navigated financial difficulties by modeling itself after the Boy Scouts.
Caterpillar is hardly the first company to cut its support for the Boy Scouts over their policy on homosexuality. The United Parcel Service and Intel, among many others, have done so as well; both did so before the Boy Scouts’ decision to allow gay scouts, and there is no indication that they will restore their support.

A group of people that comprise less than 3 % of our population has achieved their ultimate goal. They have destroyed the BSA for all intents and purposes. Those that voted to allow openly gays as scouts are just as guilty.

    • Kent2012

This is a microcosm of what the democommies and their fearless pointer, kenyan boy, are hoping to achieve with the USA

  • ADRoberts

Corporations? Boy Scouts themselves are dumping the Boy Scouts. They will be looking for other groups that have HIGH standards to teach and live.

  • Rattlerjake

It’s not just the sponsors, but the volunteers who teach the merit badge courses are leaving in droves. They may still have scouts but they will have no one to teach them.

  • Whackajig

When the Scouts express that they wish to prepare the kid for life in the real world, I don’t believe that they had imagined that they would introduce a group whose sole interest is in the other boy’s sex organs.

  • barto

The gays wanted to “scout” around the showers for converts!

    • Whackajig

Hold tight to the soap. Grave danger if you might drop it in the shower.

  • Whackajig

Corporate sponsors are not all in favor of the rooster lollipops.

  • Robert S Moulds

Caterpillar has a point the boy scout could have scouts but not gay scout masters so their is a double standard so they have a fair enough reason to cut sponsorship. Having said that personally I would not want to force the scouts to accept gays if they are that conservative. Beside who wants to wear those silly tan board shorts anyway they must be cold in the winter poor children freezing with their knobby knees. I say leave them alone and from an alternative group that has better uniforms for one thing and bakes better cookies.

    • boccagalupe

Just what “cookies” are you referring to in your post Mouldy??? By the way, they have “big-boy” trousers for winter wear same as you do Bobby!!! Get real. It’s obvious you don’t know what you’re talking about.

The Truth About the BSA Membership Policy Change:

Please go to the BSA National Council web site at http://www.scouting.org then go to the following sub-sites:

    1. Media Center: click on the red-lined “Membership Standards Review Voting Results”

    2. This brings you to the May 23 policy statement but note the sidebar for “Voting Member Information”. You may go through each item for further information however the one to examine carefully is “Summary, Research, Additional Information”; this is the sub-site with the most telling info but you must scroll down to “Membership Standards Executive Summary”. Here you will find frankly damning evidence to show the majority of charter holders, local councils, leaders, and parents do NOT support a change in policy.

Be certain to read through ALL summaries. You will also find the BSA Board wanted the change however the ADVISORY Board did not.

    Excerpts:

(keep in mind ‘current policy’ refers to exclusion of openly homosexual youth not the policy changes announced on May 23)

The BSA’s Voice of the Scout Membership Standards Survey was sent to more than 1 million adult members, with over 200,000 respondents. The survey found:

Respondents support the current policy by a 61 percent to 34 percent margin.

Support for the current policy is higher at different program and volunteer levels in the organization:

50 percent of Cub Scout parents support it; 45 percent of Cub Scout parents oppose.

61 percent of Boy Scout parents support it.

62 percent of unit leaders support it.

64 percent of council and district volunteers support it.

72 percent of chartered organizations support it.

(The summary also shows of the four council regions ONLY the Northeast Region supports changing the policy; the Southern, Western, and Central Regions are overwhelmingly AGAINST the change)

Conclusion: BSA National Council is frankly lying.

  • Aristophanes

A lot of these corporations (caterpillar and ups, to name 2) cut their support because they feel the boy scouts did not go far enough!! They want the boy scouts to also have homosexual scout masters. Do not celebrate these withdrawals, it is only because the boy scouts did not make the homosexuals all inclusive.

  • foxxybey

Good, I would never let my son’s or daughters be members of this homosexual loving bunch of nut jobs, no more support from me and hope everyone stops giving them money until they get some morals again.
