NSA Leaker Says He Talked to Prevent Turn Key Tyranny……..Is He a Hero or Traitor?

Edward Snowden says his biggest fear is that the risk he has taken to expose what NSA is doing to the American people, will be in vain. He wants others to step forward and reveal what they know.
He says he has come forward to stop turn key Tyranny.

Edward Joseph Snowden, 29, knew full well the risks he had undertaken and the awesome powers that would soon be arrayed to hunt for him. Pseudonyms were the least of his precautions as we corresponded from afar. Snowden was spilling some of the most sensitive secrets of a surveillance apparatus he had grown to detest. By late last month, he believed he was already “on the X” — exposure imminent.

“I understand that I will be made to suffer for my actions, and that the return of this information to the public marks my end,” he wrote in early May, before we had our first direct contact. He warned that even journalists who pursued his story were at risk until they published.

The U.S. intelligence community, he wrote, “will most certainly kill you if they think you are the single point of failure that could stop this disclosure and make them the sole owner of this information.”

I did not believe that literally, but I knew he had reason to fear.

A series of indirect contacts preceded our first direct exchange May 16. Snowden was not yet ready to tell me his name, but he said he was certain to be exposed — by his own hand or somebody else’s. Until then, he asked that I not quote him at length. He said semantic analysis, another of the NSA’s capabilities, would identify him by his patterns of language.

“You can’t protect the source,” he wrote, “but if you help me make the truth known, I will consider it a fair trade.” Later, he added, “There’s no saving me.”

I asked him, at the risk of estrangement, how he could justify exposing intelligence methods that might benefit U.S. adversaries.

“Perhaps I am naive,” he replied, “but I believe that at this point in history, the greatest danger to our freedom and way of life comes from the reasonable fear of omniscient State powers kept in check by nothing more than policy documents.” The steady expansion of surveillance powers, he wrote, is “such a direct threat to democratic governance that I have risked my life and family for it.”

While the media is busy arguing about whether this man is a hero or traitor, I don’t give a flip.
He is not the story..
The story is the fact that every single day we are seeing the results of what happens when you give the United States Federal Government an inch… it takes a mile..
He is revealing what most of us already know… that spying on the american people is big governent business.

Citizens who are willing to give up liberty for the sake of security DESERVE NEITHER..
With the Patriot Act and NDAA, we gave a corrupt government permission to hammer away at the foundation of liberty in this country.
Republicans and Democrats who supported both failed the citizens.

      MHSnider: What Bradley Manning did and what this guy did is apples and oranges. Bradley Manning sent massive quantities of embassy communications data and military battle plan data off to Wikileaks because he wanted to embarrass the US. His reasoning was that he felt the war in which he volunteered to participate when he enlisted was illegal. I caution you to remember that first, our military is an all voluntary force, nobody twisted his arm into enlisting, and second, the war was not illegal because Congress voted to approve it happening. Ill advised? Yes, illegal? No.) His actions were malicious in nature and in effect.

      What this guy did was prove that the US government is exceeding it’s authority and intentionally, willfully and covertly spying on it’s own citizens, and forcing companies within this country to be unwilling partners through top secret court orders, all under the guise of “national security”.

        Are you aware that they now want new enlistees to sign an oath that they WILL FIRE ON AMERICANS IF ORDERED??????? My own niece, who was in the army and served 3 tours in A and I, said she would shoot ME, her BLOOD KIN, if ordered. She is now no longer considered to be my kin, and she is now OUT of the service and I don’t care one bit about her. Threw out her pics, DONE. THIS IS WHAT THIS GOVERNMENT is doing, and BOTH parties are the same, BOTH LIARS.

          Wrong move! Needs to be, step by step, SHOWN WHY that is wrong, and if they don’t understand their ‘oath to defend the constitution’ and exactly where, AND HOW such an order BREAKS THAT OATH, they then need to seek a lawyer to defend themselves in a court of law, because they would have been sued, and possibly imprisoned had they acted on such order!!!
          Perhaps, with love they can be restored! Don’t abandon such a one until you find that restoration to the truth is impossible!

Take time to tour D.C. for a week! Every historical bldg+monument is replete with Biblical scriptures from one end to the other. Liberals hate this fact + cover that up in the news. This is more than a fight against “flesh + blood”. It’s more than turning America back to the people,! It’s turning the people back to God…that is the secret of America, NOT POLITICS but conviction to be + do right according to Gods law. That is the basis for the Declaration of Independence! Read it! That’s why these others hate America, for it’s Christian principles + beliefs. Obama’s the one who said that -“America no longer is a Christian nation”-, remember!? This is a spiritual battle for society more than political,! The political emanated out of the Christian principles the Founders believed, it’s WHERE their Wisdom came from. With out them WE might as well be socialists, that’s how THEY can believe in it – their unbelievers. No God, no Godly principles or conviction to stand for! Man is just another animal to be controlled by the elite critters in the herd, flock, pack or whatever. The world + life in it are just a big accident to them, or spontaneous generation, -poof universe+life. You/we are disposable + dispensable as THEY deem necessary + see fit. We are AMERICANS and we have been violated by a government that is out of control. Here it is for your revue and remembrance; “And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the Protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.” This young fellow who blew the whistle on the NSA’s illegal operation of spying on all American citizens without cause, has pledged the same to all Americans, in the response to the oath to the US Constitution that he was required to take, as all those who were collecting this information on all American citizens also took, but violated and broke that oath. That young man was living in Hawaii with his girl friend, making $200,000.00 a year, but gave all that up to become a fugitive for reporting the usurpation of the 4th Amendment to all those who were being violated and spied on without cause, and fulfilling that oath he took to the US Constitution. What the NSA was doing was illegal, no matter how many laws Congress may pass allowing the illegality to take place, it still violated the 4th Amendment in the US Constitution and our Bill of Rights, which is the superior law of the land in the USA. That young man definitely put his life, fortune, and sacred honor on the line, and for what, the American people’s rights under their US Constitution and it’s 4th Amendment. Now those who were breaking the law of the land and usurping and violating the US Constitution’s 4th Amendment, are demanding their pint of blood, and the prosecution of this young man’s payless effort and sacrifice to protect the American people from these immoral and lying men, who forsake their oaths to the US Constitution just to maintain a job, to the disgrace of all the American people.         Many have been assassinated over the years by our govt and by specific people in our govt (and covered up) for all sorts of reasons. We are teetering dangerously close to a true tyrannical govt. It has been in the works for a very long time and is near fruition. Read W. Cleon Skousen’s 130 page commentary, (The Naked Communist) on Dr. Carroll Quigley’s 1300 page tome, “Tragedy and Hope, A History of The World In Our Time.” Skousen’s book will tell you all you need to know about the what and the why of everything going on and what has led up to our present situation. It is short enough to read in just a few days, but I took my time with it, as I’m sure you will, too.

    It appears to me that our politicians, all the Democrats and some of the Republicans, care more about keeping their secrets than they do about protecting us from the tyrannical actions of the Obama administration. Obama and Edward Snowden both took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. But only one of the two actually honored that oath. Edward Snowden blew the whistle when he recognized that Obama was using the NSA to illegally spy on Americans who had never committed a crime or had ever indicated a proclivity for committing an act of terrorism. When he realized the depth and breadth of the corruption within the government his only recourse was to go directly to the American people via the press. In exposing Obama’s violation of the 4th Amendment to the Constitution he exposed only the criminal act of spying on citizens without cause or a court order. He never revealed the processes for gathering that information, which is what is classified. So, two men took an oath and one of them dishonored that oath. The other did what he is required to do by that oath and exposed a serious criminal activity within the government. I would also like to point our that Barak Obama has a Top Secret clearance only because he was elected President. If he were required to pass through the normal vetting process he would never get a clearance because of his fraudulent use of a dead mans Social Security number, a highly suspect birth certificate, loss of his license to practice law, use of several aliases and a highly questionable and shady background. Conversely, Edward Snowden got his clearance the old fashioned way…He earned it! And for blowing the whistle on Barak Obamas crimes he should be commended and given the good citizen award. And for his growing list of crimes against the people of America, Obama should be removed from office and charged with the crime of treason and espionage. And as far as I’m concerned, Peter King, and anyone else who is going after Snowden opens themselves up to serious questions about their integrity, if not their own faithfulness to the oath that they took.
    Final question: How many crimes does Barak Obama have to commit before our politicians show the same righteous condemnation towards him as they have towards Edward Snowden?

    Technically he could’ve/should’ve legally gone to a congressman-[Rand Paul?] work through the system, kinda like elections + Constitutional precedence for “Whistle Blower” safeguards. Snowden also gave detailed classified info on ALL his high clearance -connection ability to anyone- from top level military + any upper echelon security bureaus, as if to impress. However now the WHOLE WORLD knows that he is chock FULL of national security info! Now ANY foreign enemy or sleeper cell could kidnap + torture him to extract information[+ how to access it] no one should even know that he had, except he just told the world + went to China. ‘Safe’ from OUR authorities[or help from] but not any unscrupulous terrorists or unfriendly regime. 29 is quite young to have THAT level of clearance in the first place + he showed that by WAY to much info to the whole world. Rand Paul would’ve handled this far more circumspectly without endangering or ruining this kids life. Which is what he did by his choice of venue to enlighten the American public. Last I knew only over seas calls to terrorist prone countries could be checked out. This is an eye opener yet wasn’t appropriately handled, now legally the way he went about it means he has to be indicted. This to prevent the next high clearance person with highly classified info with a wild hair to go to ‘China? + spout off way wrongly with info dangerous to America! WE are right now sentencing a U.S. soldier from 20-to-life for Wikileaks; remember?

    This is not the America that I grew up in, with the U.S. Government spying on its citizens like it is their God given right. There are other and better ways to stop terrorism, such as better control on explosives as well as fireworks purchases. These throw-a-way cell phones would be a good start, requireing a photo id and a fingerprint possibly. People like me have nothing to hide but does that mean that I cannot have any privacy. How do we know they aren’t looking at all of the pictures that teenagers “sext” to each other or some other nefarious ventures. Just read 1984. I am sure that you could prevent a huge proportion of crime in this country by doing regular unannounced searches on everyone’s homes or apartments. This whole “Patriot’s Act” needs to be reviewed completely right away. If Obama was able to take our guns away like he is trying, our goose is cooked. We have got to get him and his criminal administration out of the White House NOW! Everyone that knows anything about “Operation Fast and Furious”, Benghazi, and the IRS scandal needs to come forward as whistleblowers now. Repealing the Voter’s “Rights” Act will end a lot of this illegal election rigging also. We can never have an honest election again unless photo ID has to be presented to vote. Why do you think the Democrat Party is so against it?

    Edward Snowden is no worse than Obama about giving out secrets. After all, Obama gave Hollywood film makers free reign to look through secret information so that they could make a movie (The Hurt Locker). If anything Obama is the traitor to this nation and NOT Snowden. After all, Snowden seems to have all of us in mind by letting us know about the NSA abuse of our 4th Amendment rights.

    When we couple the NSA spying on us along with the IRS intimidation of conservative and religious groups, there seems to be a pattern developing where Obama and his minions seem to be the instigators of tyrannical government abuses to control all of us.

Now those who were breaking the law of the land and usurping and violating the US Constitution’s 4th Amendment, are demanding their pint of blood, and the prosecution of this young man’s payless effort and sacrifice to protect the American people from these immoral and lying men, who forsake their oaths to the US Constitution just to maintain a job, to the disgrace of all the American people. Benjamin Franklin stated that, “Any people who would sacrifice their rights for temporary security, deserves neither and eventually will lose both.”

    Give Mr. Snowden a citizens meritorious Medal of Honor and bodyguards and if obama’s hit men attempt to kill him then turn obama’s SWS men on him anyone can be paid to look the other way!

    agree. I didn’t like the Patriot Act when it was passed. My thinking
    was this. OK, now we’ve granted the Executive Branch unprecedented power
    in order to protect us from terrorists, and I trusted George Bush with
    that power, because I believed he was a good man. But, my thought at the
    time was “What about the next President we elect, will we be able to
    trust him with this much power?” The answer has now been revealed and it
    is a resounding NO. Obama has even gone beyond what the Patriot Act
    allows and violated the Law as well as our civil rights. Time for
    impeachment as far as I am concerned, but I doubt if Congress has the
    “cajones” for that.

    The medias including fox are out to hang his butt. I see him as someone who loves his country and does not want to watch it being destroyed. I can think of many others that I would call committing treason in our government before I would say he is committing treason.

    We Need More Young People like Edward, to watch our Backs. He gave up a lot to protect our collective interest….to often what we hear and/or see is from those looking to financially benefit from it! So Thank you ‘Edward Snowden’ for letting me know what is truly happening under the “New Re-Instated Patriot Act” of 2009!

    Run for Office and you have my Vote for having my back, and that of 300 plus million rather or not they realize it!!!

    Even Judge Napolitano said he is a traitor. I was shocked. I’ve agreed with him on the speeches I’ve heard, but I would have expected a different reaction from him. The idea from some comments on other sites, that he should have gone through channels is preposterous. He would have been silenced immediately, lost his security clearance and almost assuredly lost his job. Think about what happened to Christian Adams from the DOJ when he tried to stop the corruption there. Edward Snowden took it on himself to WARN America. There are many now who are waking to the fact that this govt is out of line, but only because it affected them personally. They know their emails, phone calls, comments on fb and internet use are all under surveillance. Our education system has failed miserably in teaching the history of our country, our Founding documents and what they mean. It is all part of a Progressive agenda and our next election in 2014, then 2016 that will determine whether this country survives as we have known it.

      If the 2014 & 2016 elections are ANY WHERE as corrupted as the past two were (and they surely will be) the election box won’t change a thing…PROGRESSIVE DESTRUCTION. We simply HAVE to make our representatives know we are not going to stand for the destruction of this great country. Make them KNOW…they work for “we the people”…even possibly with the threat of some “butt kicking”. There are too many agencies (corrupt agencies) for any easy turning back the clock to the once moral, decent, legitimate, governing offices. Somebody’s got to go… “but how”? Talk does no good. Reasoning? They won’t listen. Those who want to destroy America have a strong foot hold, and they WILL continue their push…WITH threats. I am afraid it is going to come to that…threat against threat AND ACTION behind the threats!
