Food Stamp Recipients Sending Food Abroad

Not only can the Agriculture Department boast that food stamps feed more than 47 million people in America annually, it turns out taxpayers are also inadvertently feeding ineligible people abroad.

The New York Post reports that New Yorkers are using their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards — a vehicle for government benefits like food stamps and cash assistance — to purchase groceries, package them in large barrels and ship them to relatives overseas in places like Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

The Post reports that in the more Caribbean-heavy areas of the city, supermarkets offer hundreds of 45- to 55-gallon barrels for shipping.

Patrons pay roughly $40 in cash for the barrels and fill them with $500 to $2,000 worth of items like rice, beans, pasta, canned milk, and sausages, the Post reported, noting that the goods are less expensive and better quality than those available abroad.

For about $70 a shipping company will pick up the barrels and ship them to the Caribbean in about three weeks, according to the Post.

As an Agriculture Department spokeswoman told the paper, shipping food purchased with federally funded nutrition benefits is not an acceptable use of the benefits, which are meant to feed eligible people in America, and that state governments should be doing more to stop the practice.

The practice is relatively commonplace, according to the Post. But not everybody shipping food abroad is using welfare dollars to do so.

“Everybody does it,” a supermarket worker in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Brooklyn told the Post. “They pay for it any way they can. A lot of people pay with EBT.”

This is just another way for Obama to “redistribute the wealth” … he doesn’t care who or where it goes, just as long as we don’t get to keep it for ourselves. It’s all part of his plan to take down our capitalist society, and he’s doing a pretty good job of it. A lot of the blame should be placed on all the bozo’s in Congress that are allowing this to happen.

WTF!! When is this abuse going to stop!!! My taxes go to THIS TOO…NO WAY!

  • In my life I have done many different types of jobs. When I worked at ACME markets in Princeton and people would come in from Trenton in expensive cars(caddys) and clothing and try to buy food that my working parents and I could not afford with food stamps it makes me want to combine one of my later jobs. Sniper.

They need to go back to the welfare recipients standing in line at the welfare office to get government food. Hell, if they’re not working, they may as well spend their time standing in line. We’re paying their rent with section 8, buying their food, what the hell do they need a government credit card for? Cruises, casinos, cigarettes and liquor?

  • mcd131

FIND THEM! PROSECUTE THEM! FINE THEM! TAKE AWAY THEIR BENEFITS! THEN DEPORT THEIR ASSES!!!! Then put them on a no-fly list and ban their immigration back in!!!

A friend of mine sent me this and I’d

Here’s a quote from a government employee who supposedly witnessed
a recent interaction between an elderly woman and an antiwar protester.

There were protesters at the grocery store handing out pamphlets on the
    evils of America.

I politely declined to take one.

There was an elderly woman behind me and a young (20-ish) female
protester offered her a pamphlet, which she politely declined.

The young protester put her hand on the old woman’s shoulder as a
gesture of friendship and in a very soft voice the young lady said, “Lady,
don’t you care about the children of Iraq?”

The old woman looked up at her and said:

“Honey, my father died in France during World War II, I lost my husband in Korea,
and a son in Vietnam… All three died so a piece of garbage like you could have the right to
stand here and badmouth our country. If you touch me again, I’ll stick this umbrella
where the sun don’t shine and open it.”

Charity starts at home – if we want to balance the budget, stop foreign aid, police the recipients of entitlements rather than police law abiding citizens and prosecute them w/o jail time as jail time is another expense footed by the taxpayer to feed these scumbags and watch cable free of charge – they even get their own room which they probably never had – place them in forced labor to compensate the taxpayer for their frauds (place them in landfills to sort recyclables from organics with organics going to the energy supply to be rendered into oil) and then deny them any assistance whatsoever going forward – they will then go back to the 3rd world sh**thole they came from b/c the free ride is over and the monies saved by not having to sustain these miscreants goes back to the treasury as opposed to floating more worthless bonds which further sells our country down the river as China is buying them and, slowly but surely forcing politicians, willing or not with Ovomit willing, to appease the Chinese desires for this country when they move their manufacturing to this country and dictate their terms which certainly does not provide healthcare benefits, hence, the real reason for O’care besides paying back his voters. Anybody notice the affinitiy the black population has for muslim beliefs ever since their welfare has been cut back – they are now apeasing the muslims for their sustenance and conducting atrocious acts at an alraming pace which is what the muslims desire creating mayhem in this country – look at Detroit; the mosques have speakers calling them for prayer and many blacks are now wearing burqas and other muslim type garb to show their affinitiy to their new “daddy” to bleed their sustenance from since the USG is no longerserving as thewir “Daddy”. Happens in Northwest NJ as well. I have two Jamaican tenants who are single mothers both on section 8 and food stamps and they both do this. I never knew about the practice until one day I saw 3 big blue barrels on the front porch of the one tenant and asked about it. She got very weird and told me not to worry they were being picked up and shipped to Jamaica. After some pushing she told me that she purchases food and/or goes to the local food pantries and fills up the barrels. When all 3 are full she calls for a pick-up. She also told me “everyone” does it. I answered not “everyone.” Not honest people. She didn’t like that much. Found out later the other Jamaican tenant does it too. I called our local SNAP office and they seemed totally disintrested.
