School Blocks Student Access to Conservative Websites/Allows Access to Liberal Sites

A Woodbury High Schooler claims he uncovered political bias in the implementation of a firewall blocking some Conservative political Web sites at his school.

18-year-old Andrew Lampart, a senior at Nonnewaug High School, said he made the discovery when he was doing research for a classroom debate on gun control in May. Lampart said he first noticed that he could not get on the web site for the National Rifle Association.

“So, I went over to the other side. And I went over on sites such as Moms Demand Action or Newtown Action Alliance and I could get on these Web sites but not the others,” Lampart said.

Lampart investigated further, by broadening his search terms to Connecticut’s political parties.

“I immediately found out that the State Democrat web site was unblocked but the State GOP web site was blocked.”

Lampart even looked at Web sites focusing on abortion issues and religion. He found that “right-to-life” groups were blocked by the public school firewall but that Planned Parenthood and Pro-Choice America were not. He also tried to get on web sites such as Christianity.com and the Vatican’s web site but both were blocked. Islam-guide.com he found, was not.

“They’re trying to, in my opinion, shelter us from what’s actually going on around the country and around the world by blocking these web sites. It should be the other way around. The web sites should be unblocked so that students can get different viewpoints from different sides of each argument,” Lampart said.

Lampart claims he alerted the Superintendent of Woodbury schools to the situation but, after a week, nothing was done. He took his concerns to the Board of Education on Monday.

“It’s not a joking matter in terms of having access to both sides of an issue,” Board Chairman John Chapman said.

Chapman sent Fox CT an email saying, “the Board appreciated hearing the comments from Andrew and agree that he has raised an important issue that warrants further investigation.”

Government run school system…Nothing will get done…No change needed here!

  • daisykmt

As long as the Nat’l Educ. Assoc. (Washington, D.C.) controls our schools, this type of bias will be the rule, not the exception. However, we MUST do what we can, like being vocal with word of mouth, emails/calls to such school administrations, and social media. Just as when the kitchen light is turned on in the middle of the night & cockroaches run everywhere, we must shine a light on things such as what happened to this student, and make people aware of such bias.

    • newhon63

Exactly. We can no longer afford to say ” Well, the government runs it so there is nothing we can do about it.” That is a cope out that not only we pay the price for but ,with this issue, our children pay for it too.

  • Hatterasman

This needs to be investigated. Every GOP politician in CT needs to know about this.

  • David Webb

This is not education. This is indoctrination.

    • fideux

      Ya think?

      • David Webb

        Yeah , I think.

        • daisykmt

          I’m a newly-retired teacher (34 yrs.), and yes—I think, too!

          • Clint

            Thanks and good for you.

  • Art Hock

Just like the IRS, VA, NSA. EPA, and all the rest of these gangster organizantions the NEA is one of the worst of all. They are the main reason for all the incompetent teachers and administrators that can’t be fired but continue to poison our young people’s minds. There should be mass firings starting at the top and working down until the mess is cleaned up. Nazi indoctrination at work.

    • daisykmt

Put education back in the hands of the local school boards! We’ve got Jimmy Carter to thank for starting that . . . organization.

The Left will pull as much of this crap as they can get away with. When they get caught they say ‘oh, right, it shouldn’t be like that, we will fix it.’ And they may or may not fix it, but in the meantime they have had their way – and how much goes unreported and un-fixed? The Left is sleazy, scheming scum.

Mr. Lampart, if they allow you access to conservative views their indoctrination of students in public schools into socialism and social engineering will be greatly stifled. They want kids to be good little cookie-cutter Lemmings — now go walk off the cliff but be inclusive and take a gay friend with you.

I want a name! Who is in charge of IT for the Woodbury School District? What was the superintendent’s name who did nothing? These cockroaches need to be held up to public examination, thoroughly investigated with a focus on criminal charges.

    • newhon63

Agree. Shine the light and see who scatters.

To late orkin has all ready come. There little legs are in the air.

        • newhon63

The problem is for every set of legs in the air, there are 100 still in the walls.

          • Joken Joe

True. Just have to keep calling orken out. All thou they do make a nice crunching sound when you stomp on them.

  • fideux

    The government hates contradiction!

    • newhon63

The government will just have to get used to more and more contradiction. People are waking up, albeit too slowly for my tastes, but it is a start. And despite what many feel, we The People are their bosses. We can force them to do whatever we want them to if we just threaten them with the cold hard fact that if they continue to try to do this and other things they want to do against the good of the nation then they can take their place in the unemployment line in the next voting cycle and there are no do overs. I do not listen to what they say, i watch what they do, how they voted on past issues. I do not believe in Obama’s 180 change on issues as “I have evolved”, he and other politicians have ran on positions about issues and won then once elected they change the positions. That is cheating the public in my opinion. It is not just Democrats that are guilty. republicans have done it too. They all need watching.

  • newhon63

What is there to investigate? The student found and confirmed that web sites favoring liberal/leftist sides were not blocked while conservative sites were and it did not matter what the issue was. This, in itself warrants the lifting of the blocks put up and after that is done, call the network administrator onto the carpet to ascertain if he/she acted alone to impose this censorship or was he instructed to do so by the principal, school board or the superintendant of the district. I am no IT expert but I do know that networks do not have political preferences, the people who run them do. So someone set the network internet connections to filter out access to some sites but not others.

Our children need to have access to both sides of every issue in order to make a sound, informed, mature decision on them. I despise what Islam stands for in all of it’s forms, but in order for our young to learn what is lies and what the truth is about it, they must be allowed to look at both sides so they can get the proper information in order to know.

  • bobmead1960

Nothing like the left. Their way or the highway! Obuma breeds a stuck up attitude that more than stinks!
    It’s raunchy

  • Jim McCormack

Communist indoctrination , the only goal the Government Schools have now.

  • Joken Joe

Commies know that they can’t win a argument on ideology. So they lie block and defame the truth. The ends justify the means. Nice folks, they need to go back to there communes. So the world can recover.

  • astrojohn

“…warrants further investigation…” Sure…and nothing will be done without a lawsuit.

    • daisykmt

Here’s hoping that the mere threat of a lawsuit would be enough to get them to “revisit” their indoctrination policies.

  • astrojohn

In the early 80’s, college students drifted right, my son being one of them. From what I observe of my grandson and his friends today, the trend is about to start again – thank God! Oh wait, can I say that anymore without offending someone???

  • John Hand

Small town? Everyone has an address…School board member’s addresses should be easy to obtain. Then we all can send them some letters.

  • digdeeper

Government run education is nothing but propaganda and brainwashing. Criminal when educating children who have not yet developed critical thinking….which of course is the biggest threat to government imperialism….Marxism, and socialism, pseudonyms for communism. Disband the department of education….lower case intentional!!..and save our kids.
