Police Chief Makes Outrageous Request of Citizens Regarding Guns

UPDATE: SINCE THE ORIGINAL POSTING OF THIS STORY, THE POLICE CHIEF HAS REVERSED HIS POSITION… CLAIMING that social media had run wild with the news and the offer had been retracted.

Beloit City Manager Larry N. Arft announced the end of Jacobs’ program with the following statement:
While the program was strictly voluntary and required a signed release before police could enter a residence, numerous individuals have expressed concerns about the fact that people’s homes would be inspected or searched as part of the process.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE
Police chief Norm Jacobs of Beloit, Wisconsin, has made an unusual request of city residents.
He wants them to allow police to search their homes for guns.
Why?
Jacobs believes this will put the problems associated with “gun violence” front and center in residents’ minds.
He hopes city residents will volunteer to have police come and go room-to-room, drawer-to-drawer, closet-to-closet, to search for guns and raise awareness of the seriousness of “gun violence.”

According to Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR), Jacobs asked for volunteers because that’s how he has seen healthcare providers handle viral outbreaks.

WPR quoted Jacobs saying: “Gun violence is as serious as the Ebola virus is represented in the media, and we should fight it using the tools that we’ve learned from our health providers.”

Jacobs also contends that education would end gun violence. He cites the fact that four of the seven victims of homicides in Beloit in 2014 “were teenagers or young men in their 20s.” He adds, “pretty much all those kids and young men need is just to be educated.”

Jacobs said he’s seen “25-year-old men” who can “barely read on a fifth grade level… but they know how to work a gun.”

As I understand, this chief has violated his oath to protect the people. Remove him and the mayor from office. IMPO.

  • Henry

Utterly ridiculous! DON’T DO THIS! NO AGENCY OR POLICE HAS THE RIGHT TO SEARCH YOUR HOME WITHOUT A WARRANT OR CAUSE!

  • ratspt

Jacobs is nothing more than a frikin NAZI!!

  • Richard Wood

Statistics show the number one cause of failed Leadership is opening of one’s mouth mouth and letting words come out without running them across your mind first….A bad habit most liberals have… just saying.

  • TEXAN

People are STUPID if they volunteer for this. its NONE OF THE GOVT’S business “if” you have any guns or how many OR where their at in your home. This police chief is overstepping his boundaries.

  • Rhonda Renee Albrecht

The City of Beloit, WI, police department, as of yesterday, has withdrawn its request… directly off the city’s website… http://gouda.ci.beloit.wi.us/WebLink8/0/doc/57688/Electronic.aspx

    • PatHenry

Just the overall stupidity of the Chief seems to require his resignation!

  • NukeWaste

Does he want to check my unicorn farm for guns also?

  • offdaback

I guess this idiot believes that the real criminals are going to line up outside the PD just begging to have their property searched…..what a douche bag….

  • BlackBeaver

Chief Jacobs should resign. His idea is ridiculous. How does searching someone’s home raise awareness of “gun violence”?

Jan: I think the police chief needs to be educated. As It’s obvious this guy gets an F for street smarts, Unless he’s planning on educating his city residents in defensive tactics
I retired from the Marine Corps followed by a career in Law Enforcement. It sounds like he thinks he will call and ask when he can come and search the homes. RIGHT Chief!

If you believe any teens who have guns won’t move them before you arrive, it’s you who needs the go back to the academy and /or ride along with a Metro Police Dept.
If you happen to have a Degree it sounds like it’s in sociology , instead of criminal Justice.
I think this problem will really take time, starting with PARENTS being held for their children’s misdemeanors and felonies, I also believe the DRAFT would help kids learn responsibility and Accountability, as well as understanding other Cultures and how to get along with all races, creeds and religions, They learn welfare isn’t free and freedom isn’t free, they can take pride in giving something to the community and country. Then when they become parents they understand that, it’s not a teachers responsibility to raise their children. Yet some parents use school as a baby sitting program, when a teacher corrects a kid their parents show up in the news wanting to file suit against the teacher and school.
Sorry Jan this is a sore subject with me I came from a Dysfunctional family inner city near north side Chicago 1220 North Clark Street , With a father and step father who did time yes in Prison and a cousin who did 30 years for armed robbery. I’m NOT talking about Black Americans, I’m talking about All Americans there’s a % of Dysfunctional families. You don’t have to feel sorry for your self , just get away from the people who think this country owes them everything for free get off your fanny and earn some respect which goes both ways. (enough) Get it RIGHT you are somebody
special stop feeling sorry for your self!
Then when their kids get into trouble the parents are very quick to show baby pictures so the public feels sorry for the family. I stole when I was a kid, yeah to EAT!
    Semper FI
If I did it, YOU can do it also!

As Mr. Thomas Jefferson once said…”If a law is unjust, a man
is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so.” There is ONE PLACE
AND ONE PLACE ONLY in the entire Constitution of the United States of America, where
the Founders felt it important enough to insert and emphasize…the right
…..”shall not be infringed.” When reading the 2nd Amendment, or any
Amendment, it is very important to keep in mind that the Amendment does not
create the right to keep and bear arms. The 2nd Amendment merely recognizes
that the right already existed before the Bill of Rights was added to the
original Constitution in 1789. The 2nd Amendment therefore confirms the
existence of the right and emphasizes that the government shall not infringe
upon that right. Since the 2nd Amendment does not grant the right, repealing
the Amendment could not take it away. James Madison, the architect of the
Constitution, expressed concerned that adding the Bill of Rights to the
Constitution might be wrongfully interpreted as limiting all other rights not
mentioned and open the door to government trying to assume powers it did not
have. Since the powers of government are limited to those specified in the
Constitution and all other powers are reserved to the States or to the people,
Madison felt that a Bill of Rights was not needed. For example, if the 2nd
Amendment did not exist, the right to keep and bear arms still would because
the right itself is not created by the 2nd Amendment. The Amendment merely
acknowledges the right. Suppose the Amendment was repealed? Would the
government have the power to infringe upon or confiscate arms from the people?
No such power exists in the Constitution, the place where the government
derives its power. The purpose of government is to protect people’s rights not
destroy them. Despite Madison’s logic, he eventually agreed to the Bill of
Rights because of pressure from the States. In United States v. Cruikshank, 92
U.S. 542 (1875), the Supreme Court ruled that “the right to bear arms is
not granted by the Constitution; neither is it in any manner dependent upon
that instrument for its existence. The Second Amendments means no more than
that it shall not be infringed by Congress, and has no other effect than to
restrict the powers of the National Government.” This meaning is strongly
confirmed by the historical background of the Second Amendment. We look to this
because it has always been widely understood that the Second Amendment, like
the First and Fourth Amendments, codified a pre-existing right. The very text
of the Second Amendment implicitly recognizes the pre-existence of the right
and declares only that it “shall not be infringed.” As the United States
    Supreme Court said in United States v. Cruikshank, 92 U. S. 542, 553 (1876),
“this is not a right granted by the Constitution. Neither is it in any manner
dependent upon that instrument for its existence. The Second amendment declares
that it shall not be infringed. BOTTOM LINE: “All laws or regulations, whether
federal or state, which infringe upon the Second Amendment’s protection of the
right to keep and bear arms are null and void and unconstitutional. Not because
the 11th Hour says so, but because the Constitution says so.” ~ Rick A Carfagna…

Why would someone with illegal guns in one’s home, VOLUNTEER to have one’s home searched? This is designed to get Americans used to the idea that search and seizure without the proper documentation and warrants, etc, are okay and “no big thing”. It’s not as stupid as it sounds, on the surface; this is a carefully calculated move to pave the way for something else that removes the freedoms guaranteed to us in the Bill of Rights.
Our nation is going down, and will collapse, if the direction in which it is going, is not reversed. We, as a nation, have turned our backs on God, and God, being the loving Father He is, has stepped back, and is letting us suffer the consequences of our actions. We have called good, that which God said is evil, and declared evil, that which God said is good (Isaiah 5:20). I’m not talking just about abortion or homosexuality. I just heard on a TV news report that $6 BILLION has been paid out in fraudulent child tax credit claims. Claiming a tax credit to which one is not eligible is called STEALING. One certainly should protest, when one feels one’s rights have been violated, or when one sees or hears about injustice, but the violence that occurred when the verdict in the Michael Brown case was read, is WRONG and inexcusable. Peaceful demonstrations are good.
I place the bulk of the blame for the downward spiral of America, on my fellow Christians. In many ways, one cannot tell the difference between a real Christian and a non-Christian! Divorce (for example) is wrong, but (if it is possible) it is MORE of a wrong for a couple who say they follow Jesus.

No not acceptable AT ALL. WE have the right to privacy. But remember folks. They are going to pull out AGENDA 21 to try and screw all of us. SOO if you are not for this.. YOU BETTER be willing to stand up for you and everyone else who will get screwed when they come knocking. They are NOT coming in to my home. They have no reason to. AT ALL I WILL SUE THE HELL OUT OF THEM.

    • JobRon

Jax: They can try and walk into my home. I’ll guarantee that they won’t walk out !!

It sounds like another violation of one oath or another. What is is about the elected and law enforcement that they feel themselves not subject to the same disciplines and laws as the rest of us? Signed releases or not, such a “suggestion,” strikes me as intimidatory and unnecessary and constitutes an invasion of privacy sought with permission. However, what was to stop such from becoming policy and placing those who would NOT provide permission on some kind of clandestine list for retribution? After all, Isn’t that EXACTLY what happened in the IRS persecution of conservatives? This government is so invasive it should be toppled by Constitutional process under the Rule of Law which provides means and methods for doing so. ALL of this continuous erosion of our choices and constitutional rights as AMERICAN CITIZENS must cease and desist. It might help considerably if, instead of amnestizing millions of foreign felons, we deported them rather than expecting those citizens, native born and legally naturalized to be penalized for having complied with our laws ; rather than protecting and rewarding those VIOLATING THEM AS THEIR FIRST ACT ON OUR SOIL!

  • Wayne Ogilvy

How about We the People search the Chiefs home first and see what kind of prescription drugs he’s taking, He must be on something to come up with an idea like this.

  • Robert Moulds

The RCMP did it in Calgary Alberta during the floods in 2013. If the people Beloit Wisconsin don’t want the police to take away their legally owned guns with out a warrant which is in itself illegal than vote for a mayor who will fire the over zealous cop.

  • Wildwestwishes

Unbelievable!!! For anybody to even think that would have been ok, it’s outrageous!!! Leaves me speechless !!!
